My interest is in light, color, and substance and their role in the establishment of our philosophical and material sense of place–the ways in which they simultaneously shape, sustain and reflect who and where we are, moment by moment.

My projects develop out of an open conversation with external phenomena. Projects have used diverse materials such as collected seawater, local roadside plants, river silt, flowers, soil, gold, beeswax, light, and recorded sound, and have been inspired by braying donkeys, buzzing flies, gurgling pipes and late summer crickets.

My painting projects are fueled by memories of ritual, chance and the secret luminosity of color and form. The practice, which includes teaching, tries to uncover in compelling and soulful ways the resonance between the external world of phenomena and the internal world of our own states of consciousness.
